As early voting begins in North Carolina, nearly 300 people are making the roughly 50-mile march from Wilson to Raleigh as part of Repairers of the Breach’s “This is Our Selma” event.
Repairers of the Breach is a NC-based civil rights group led by Bishop William Barber II. The effort is tied to the group’s “Love Forward Together Tour.”
Faith leaders and community organizers say their plan is to remind overlooked communities, who believe their votes don’t matter, that their voices still count. Early voting for the state’s midterm elections began Feb. 12 and wraps up Feb. 28. Regular voting for the midterm elections is March 3.
