1. HGTV Dream Home 2006

Every year, HGTV builds or renovates a home to give away as part of its Dream Home sweepstakes. A new location is chosen each year, and theย Dream Home for 2006ย was located in Lake Lure.

Each Dream Home comes fully furnished and decorated with a specific theme. The Lake Lure Dream Homeโ€”located about 36 miles fromย Ashevilleย on a peak of theย Blue Ridgeย mountain rangeโ€”features a casual mountain living design that reflects its surroundings. The 5,154-square-foot home has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and boasts breathtaking views of Lake Lure. Natural materials like wood and stone complement the rustic-chic style of the home.

The winner of the home, Donald P. Cook,ย sold itย within about a year to developer Land Resource Companies, citing high taxes and costly upkeep. It was sold again in 2009 and 2015.ย According to Zillow, the home isnโ€™t currently for sale. The real estate marketplace company estimates its valuation to be approximately $1,903,100.
